Hi, I am Adore Lewis. An Atlanta native born and raised in Georgia. My parents got my name from the Prince song "Truly Adore You". They divorced before I could walk. Leaving me to have 2 sets of parents. At the age of 6 I took on my artistic side. I believe I picked up my artistry from my stepdad, Rod. He was always creating different things. I used to watch this show that came on PBS Kids network. This show taught me drawing techniques.
I realized I had a passion for fashion by the age of 9. I began drawing woman's clothing. Just creating different looks. I soon was placed with a needle and thread and from there it never went away. I started hand sewing embroidered flowers and using my initials of my name ARL for practice. My parents got my first sewing machine when I was 12. I was ecstatic. It's funny because I didn't read my instruction manual and was so excited I hand winded my bobbin. It's something I would never forget and when I finally found out the proper way to do it all I could do was laugh at myself.
In High School I came up with a trend where I added beads to my pants by hand sewing. I was the only person with them, and I always got compliments about them. As a teen my friends always came to for fashion advice. Putting together outfits for them. I graduated from Westlake High School in 2009. I got a job with an urban retail company, Jimmy Jazz, at the age of 17. There I learned the ins and out of running a retail company. By the time I was 21 I was the manager of the chain store Decibel. Eventually I decided to attend The Art Institute of Decatur in 2013. I wanted to obtain my Diploma in Fashion Retail but ended up stopping. At the time I was going through so much. I was a victim of domestic violence and working 48 hours a week. Soon after I got out of my violent situation and became a single mom.
A few years later I lost my job working for a retail company after leaving Jimmy Jazz and from there I said this was the break I needed. It's time for me to pursue my passion. In December of 2018 I enrolled into The Art Institute of Atlanta to get my Bachelor of Fine Art in Fashion Design. My first quarter back I knew I was destined to be in the Fashion Industry. Everything I learned came naturally. I took my first sewing class with Gayla Rogers, who was amazing and taught me the basics sewing with an industrial sewing machine.
In February of 2020 I was a part of my first Fashion Show. I interviewed for it, showed my work and I was selected by the Fashion Coordinator Octavious Terry and other faculty and staff. It was an amazing show, and I was happy to be alongside my fellow classmate and designers. What amazed me the most about this show was the different esthetic and styles.
My ultimate goal when I graduate from school was to have a Men's mass production company and woman's clothing line. My looks will be day wear mixed with cocktail. I love to color block. I've always had an eye for putting colors together. Whether it was me merchandising at work, putting an outfit together or making one. I look forward to what the future holds. I hope in the next 5 year to be exactly where I want to be.
